Dan and Shay recently took a deeper dive into what led to what could have been the end of the duo.

Dan says he was spending too much time with social media and not enough time on their music, while Shay was battling panic attacks.

After their tour, they didn’t see or speak to each other for four months. Dan invited Shay to his home to talk things out. Shay tells People, “We can part as friends because our friendship is the most important thing, or we can really hash this out and work on ourselves and make this a sustainable thing and a healthier thing moving forward. And that’s what ended up happening.”

Their fifth studio album, Bigger Houses, comes out on Friday.
