The Sunset, Episode 7
Hello, and welcome to The Sunset. My name is Nathan and I’ll be going over a feature story I find interesting and give my thoughts on it.
On Sunday, the Pokémon franchise celebrated its 26th anniversary. In commemoration of the event, The Pokémon Company released a “Pokémon Presents” video where they announced several upcoming releases in the franchise, with the biggest announcement being Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, brand new Pokémon games set to be released late this year on the Nintendo Switch. Other games, such as Pokémon Legends Arceus and Pokémon GO, are receiving updates as well.
From the small amount of footage we saw in the trailer, the new games seem to take place in a location inspired by Spain. We also saw the new starter Pokémon, as well as improved visuals over previous titles. Metal Pokémon like Magnemite are now reflective, while other Pokémon like Pikachu and Meowth now have textured fur.
That said, Pokémon Legends Arceus just launched in January. Releasing another major Pokémon game in the same year seems excessive and I’m worried that the developers might be crunched to get it out. I hope it gets delayed so it has more time to be finished. I haven’t even gotten a chance to play Legends Arceus, so I’m not sure which one to buy now.
That said, I am a big fan of Quaxly, the Water-Type Starter Pokémon. It’s a cute little duck that has a cute little blue Pompadour that looks like toothpaste, or a Spanish explorer’s cap. Fuecoco, the Fire-Type starter, is a silly little crocodile that looks like a cocoa bean pod. Sprigatito is cool, too, I guess. It’s a little green cat.
As for the other announcements, I am glad they finally added Pokémon from the Alola region to Pokémon GO on Tuesday. I am, however, still waiting on news about Pokémon Sleep, which was announced in 2019 and never mentioned again. This is a glaring omission and I am immeasurably upset by it. Absolutely inconsolable.
I would also like to mention there will be no Sunset next week, as I will be on break. It will return the week after that. Thank you for listening to 92.1 The Frog.
