Lima’s Student Integrated Arts Filmmaker Bootcamp for Summer 2018 will be held at the Veteran’s Memorial Civic and Convention Center and gets started in a big way this weekend, with an series of acting workshops with guest artist in residence Jason Narvy PhD, the chair of the Theater Department at the University of Concordia in Chicago and also “Skull” in over 300 episodes of the 90s kids’ show the Mighty Morpin Power Rangers,Dr. Narvy is donating his time to students from the area from 5th grade (with parents welcome to attend) thru college.
Plus, there will be acting and “directing actors” workshops for grown-ups too. There’s even a 2 hour “Shakespeare For All Ages” workshop Saturday afternoon! All the details can be found at the Heartland Image Foundation FB page and http://heartlandimage.org/acting-intensive/ (HeartlandImage.org under the Students tab has all the bootcamp details). Then the full filmmaking bootcamp runs July 9-18, also at the VMCCC. The local crew that took part in the making of last summer’s feature film “A Walk With Grace” will be serving as artists-in-residence, along with some special guest industry professionals from out of town.
Students grades 6th through 12 can choose from either four tracks of study (Tech Skills, Art Department Skills, Writing & Directing or Producing & Management) or just take one class at a time. Students will make their own Lima movies. Besides all the details online, booklets are available, courtesy of SignPro Imaging. There’s a suggested donation detailed in the booklet and online, but the Heartland Image Foundation won’t turn any students away, so sign up online and get started this weekend! It all starts with acting, then moves behind the camera in the weeks to come!
The Heartland Image Foundation has a board made up mostly of Lima residents and is a 501(c)3 non profit. In 2017, the foundation received an Ohio Arts Council Grant that has also been applied for this year. Maria Sanko of CCR is the Summer 2018 bootcamp chairperson, but the foundation needs more donations so that every student interested in the integrated arts can take part in the 10 days of workshops and project creation. If you’re interested in donating, go to http://heartlandimage.org/become-a-sponsor/ and help the 2018 Student Integrated Arts Filmmaker Bootcamp become a reality, the next step towards being an ongoing afterschool program. It’s tax deductible!
