Background: Written by Bentley, Ross Copperman and Ashley Gorley, “Black” is the title track off Dierks’ latest album, Black, which was inspired by his wife’s maiden name. The “in-the-moment love song” is a bit darker than most songs Dierks has released in the past.

Going On Now: To celebrate the announcement of his first-ever arena show in Nashville, Dierks surprised his fans with an intimate show in one of the small honky-tonks on Broadway last week. A few weeks prior, Dierks also nabbed the Musical Event of the Year award at the 50th annual CMA Awards.

What’s Next: Dierks is heading out on his What the Hell world tour on January 17th. Cole Swindell and Jon Pardi will be joining him out on the road.

Dierks Bentley talks about Black: “I wrote the song ‘Black.’ It had this kind of relationship sexy thing going on. My wife’s maiden name is ‘Black,’ and she heard the song, and she really liked it. As the album started growing, at some point she was like, ‘Where are all the love songs for me, you know? Where’s my Thomas Rhett ‘Die a Happy Man’ song?’ I’m like, ‘Eh… ‘Black’ is as close as we’re getting to a real love song on this record.’”
