Today we spoke with Dr. Eric Miller of Midwest Surgical Specialists Foot & Ankle. With summer here, they want to provide you with a few valuable health tips while you are out enjoying the warm weather. While taking part in summer activities can improve your heart and vascular health, falls, trips, stumbles and other accidents can post a threat to the bones and joints in your feet and ankles.
1) Always wear appropriate footwear. Avoid wearing flip flops or sandals when participating in sports or working out.
2) Warm up and stretch before you begin activity. This includes stretching your feet and ankles too. It’s common to take part in spontaneous activities during picnics or other gatherings. Performing hops or lunges prior to activity can reduce your risk of a foot or ankle injury by promoting flexibility and strength while preparing the body for motion.
The healthcare professionals at Midwest Surgical Specialists Foot & Ankle wish you the safest of summers. But if that unexpected injury occurs, give them a call at 419-998-8278.
