Annie is a black lab mix with white paws who was dropped off at a shelter with severe mange about a month ago. Her condition has greatly improved since then. She was flea bitten, with much of her fur gone, and she was withdrawn. Her hair has almost completely grown back and she is a happy dog again! Deb Helser is looking for a loving family to take in Annie and give her a loving home.
Deb’s Dogs is a non profit 501-c-3 organization that depends on donations and adoption fees to fund animals’ vet care. Most of the dogs that come into their care come from The Allen County Dog Warden Facility. Usually the dogs they take from the shelter are the ones that need extra attention. The animals may have been neglected, abused or injured. Once they take the dogs they go to the vet for a complete checkup. If they are healthy enough at this time, they are vaccinated and spayed or neutered. Sometimes Deb’s Dog’s has to wait awhile for this due to the condition of the animal. Deb’s Dogs works with Oakwood Correctional Facility and their dog harbor program. This is an excellent training program where an inmate takes a dog for a period of time and works with the animal on basic commands, house training and socialization. It is a great experience for the dog and the inmate. They learn from each other and the inmates take a lot of time and effort with these dogs.. Since Deb’s Dog’s does not have a facility, this program is an important part of their rescue efforts.
